This week, the Alewine family takes our annual trip to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. The excitement begins around mid-March, when winter starts to wane in Tennessee and the warm days start to pop up during the week like the flowers emerging from the ground. By the time May hits, we can practically smell the ocean.
Hilton Head is a wonderful place. Like Gatlinburg, it has the ability to make a visitor feel like you’re a million miles away from the rest of the world. But the reality is, it’s not the island that makes this trip so special. It’s putting a 1008 piece puzzle together at the dinner table that we never actually used to eat dinner. It’s driving to the store with a sister that lives on the other side of the country. It’s an uncle and niece realizing they like the same bands. It’s two toddler cousins who call each other best friend and couldn't have more fun together if they tried.
We go to Hilton Head every year, and we love what this place has come to represent. It’s all of us, together under one roof, sharing life. Wherever your family is, we hope you have a Hilton Head in your future.
